In USA, there won’t be a single person who doesn’t know about Wal-mart because it is a very popular American multinational company retail corporation that operates a huge chain of discount department stores and warehouse stores. Its head quarter is situated in Bentonville, Arkansas. The founder of the company is Sam Walton in 1962 and got incorporated in 1969, October 31. Till date, the company has its branches in twenty-eight countries and has a whopping number of eleven thousand stores under a total of sixty-five banners.

In America and Canada, it operates under the name Walmart. In Japan, it operates as Seiyu, in India as Best Price. It is also the owner of Sam’s club retail warehouses. It is the world’s largest company if one considers it revenue, according to the famed magazine Fortune Global 500 list introduced in 2014. It is a family owned business and the heirs own over 50% of shares in Walmart through the company Walton Enterprises and also through their individual holdings. If one sees their market value, Wal-Mart is the world’s most valuable company and also the largest grocery retailer in USA. In 2009, it generated fifty-one percent of its sales only from grocery business.

The company got listed in New York Stock Exchange in 1972. The major growth happened in late 1980’s and 1990’s because now it became a national company from a regional company. By 1988, it became the most profitable retailer in USA and by October 1989, it got the title of largest in terms of revenue.
