How to avoid an IRS tax audit

How to avoid an IRS tax audit

Lately, the Internal Revenue Service has become very learner. That said it doesn’t mean that you will still have an easy time when you are filing your taxes. In the current times filling taxes has been made very simple that anyway can be able to do so without making errors, for instance you can use good computer program and you will be good to go.

That said there are some few things you can do so as to ensure that the auditors at the IRS are not suspicious about your return and those are:

Typos and Bad Math
Making mistake when filing your taxes can easily open the door for an audit from the IRS. Audits usually come about when we make mistakes with “W-2s or 1099s that do not agree with the return,” said John Piershale who is a certified financial planner at Piershale Financial Group. Always ensure that you double check the information that you have written when filing.

Double dependents
In an event that you have had a change in your household do ensure that any dependents have been claimed on the return of the taxpayer. Paul Dunham, CBIZ’s tax managing director, says that common sources of audit are "Claiming dependents that have been claimed by someone else or have already filed a return and have claimed themselves."

Odd Itemized Deductions
Always ensure that you claim for deductions that you have properly documented, failure to do so might result into the tax man looking at you the wrong way. According to Dunham, "If a taxpayer has an unusually high amount of itemized deductions given their income levels, an audit is potentially more likely."
