Italy's Prosecutors Wrapping Up Inquiry into Apple Not Paying Taxes

The prosecutors in Italy have finished a probe into allegations that Apple failed to pay corporate taxes summing up to USD 964 million in that country. According to the Italian laws, the way is now paved so that prosecutors can ask from a judge to bring the case to trial. The probe covers the period between 2008 and 2013 and it relates to two managers from Italy's Apple base and one manager from the Irish branch.

The profits were allegedly processed by the Irish subsidiary, which saved Apple EUR 900 million in the above-mentioned period. According to an Apple statement, the company has never failed to pay 1 euro of taxes in every country it operates. The corporation also added that Italian tax authorities audited tax years 2007, 2008 and 2009 and have found that Apple operations are in full compliance with the OECD documentation and transparency standards. "These new allegations against our employees are completely without merit and we’re confident this process will reach the same conclusion," the statement said.

Apple is not the only American company who has had a shady tax past in Europe. Other companies that fell foul of tax inquiries in Europe are Amazon and Google. Italy pledged it will try to fill its coffers with any unpaid penny coming from the tax.
