3 TAX SCAMS TO AVOID IN 2015

With the new tax season officially opening some few days ago you should be on high alert for scams that will cost you dearly as you plan on submitting your 2014 returns to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service).
From imposters who pose as the IRS to identity thieves, there are several ways which con artists have devised so as to be able to obtaining sensitive information from unsuspecting taxpayers as they submit their tax returns.
Below are 3 tax scams to avoid in 2015;
IRS Imposters: This is a very common practice which is very common during this season and it usually involves con artists posing as the IRS. Con artists will give you a call and tell you about how you owe one of your family members or even that the IRS owes you and tricks you into giving them your credit card information or any other private information. In certain incidents, the imposters are known to threaten victims by telling them that they will report them to the police.
Tax Identity Theft: Con artists in the past have managed to bilk the IRS out of billions, something they have managed to do by stealing a number of social security numbers from unsuspecting individuals. By ensuring that you protect your social security number by doing things such as, not carrying your security card will help in ensuring that you don’t fall victim to this act.
Email Phishing Scams: This is common practice that scammers usually use and it involves sending emails to unsuspecting individuals informing them to click a link so as to resolve a mistake such as a document processing error. The email usually appears to come from the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service.
